Not a nut and not for cracking. The name is misleading because nutmeg is actually the seed core of peach-like tropical fruits. Therefore, it is not cracked but grated – on potatoes, tarte flambée and pumpkin soups, for example. And preferably fresh, because its resinous aroma is fleeting.
